The Fathers Say (“the app”) is a free app for reading the Bible with the commentary of the Church Fathers. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use the app and this website. In short: we do not collect, store or sell any personal information. There are no accounts, no advertising and no analytics.

What stays on your device

The app saves a few settings on your device so it can reopen where you left off: your language, your chosen Bible translation, and the book and chapter you last read. These never leave your device and are removed when you uninstall the app. The commentary and the offline Bibles are part of the app itself.

Online Bible translations (API.Bible)

Some copyrighted Bible translations, such as the NKJV (the default for English), are not included in the app and are loaded from API.Bible, a service of the American Bible Society, when you read them. When that happens:

• Your device requests the chapter from API.Bible, which, like any web server, receives your IP address.
• As API.Bible’s licence requires, the app reports each chapter viewed to API.Bible’s Fair Use Management System. The report contains a random identifier created on your device (not linked to your name, email or any account), a random identifier for the current session, and a token saying which passage was shown. It is used by API.Bible and the Bible publishers to count use of their translations.
• The chapter text is kept only while the app is open.

If you prefer that the app make no network requests at all, choose one of the translations marked “Included, works offline” in Settings (for English, the King James Version or the World English Bible). The commentary always works offline.

App stores

Apple (App Store) and Google (Google Play) may collect information about downloads, and crash reports if you have enabled sharing them, under their own privacy policies. We receive only anonymous, aggregated statistics from them.

This website

thefatherssay.com is a static website. It sets no cookies and uses no analytics or third-party scripts; its fonts are served from this site. It is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes technical request data (such as IP addresses) to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.

Children

The app is suitable for all ages and collects no personal information from anyone, including children.

If this policy changes, we will update it here and change the date above.
